southy should be able to make his own inverter, have you done the power and control module at trade-school yet chris?? :)

few rectifiers here and there, filters... regulators... and bang, you have an inverter :)

If ya just wanting the screen for DVD use .. id o a modded xbox/ps2 combo...

Backed off a 300w pure sine wave invertor or if youre keen enough construct your own power invertor.

I have this setup in my dash instal that ive been contimplating selling.... depending on how large a screen youd like it could be of use... (17" JVC LCD TV ... would supply VESA mount etc - ive gone a lil better now)...

If youre not going to go the gas strut path even with closing id still use a rubber cushion system to prevent the harsh vibration of the boot closing not too mention how boot lids vibrate/flex with subs :P to protect the screen.

The screen I used was both 12v / 240v so invertor was only required to run the 240v xbox...

it of mdf n fibreglass she'll be sweet....way cheaper than a dvd capable HU...plus the xbox gives you SRS, can hold all your tunes, movies, pics for shows etc etc

Have been planning this mod for my own for quite sometime just a lil different....

u can get dvd/cd/mp3 single din units for arounf $450 last time i looked

i got a brand spankin new 1 for $250

wack a dvd headunit in run the video lead down to the rear for the lcd tv run sound to amps easy done
for the 240v power install a power internverter like u have done bulid a little relay setup so when ya remote from ya headunit turns on it turns ya relay on then ur power inverter will work

same setup i got but my screen in only 12v and also running ps2 and under rear camera

dvd h/units for round the 1000 contain the screen also i belive its a waste theres always a cheap way out but not cheap cheap

*note i didnt read any replys only the opening to the topic*

lol, have a play with one of the Units i have and you tell me what you'd rather... iv already privously had a single Din DVD/screen in there.... then replaced it with this unit, things it can do are unbeliveible

its pioneer's top of the line DEH-P9850BT

go to pioneers site for full specs/details or Ask Steady_ED or Kyle about it, they both have one and know how to work it alot better than me

Loads of CD only HUs still cost close to or over 1000.

Once they have a decent multiband EQ, bluetooth, auto time adjustment and ipod capability the price is up there.

That Pioneer unit as Tickford said has dropped...pioneer website list them as rrp $949 still but you wouldnt pay close to that in most audio joints...

Its still their top of the line Cd tuner HU hence the value has held well.

I know with my Alpine HU I bought the top of the CDA-9855R bit over 18months or so ago and its still the best CD tuner they have on the market for $1100 but its now worth $799.

With that pioneer unit your paying for the ipod and blue tooth connectivity.
