I've recently purchased a set of 20's to share between my au and eb and am having some difficulty with the fronts on the eb. Theyjust clear the inside of the guard which is nice but just touch(only just) the top control arm on the inside. at first i thought id just get wider spacers but with the proximity to the guard this isnt feasable. A mate told me to get the grinder out and remove the offending area of metal, I'd probly have to shave between 1-3mm off to do the job. My question is:

Are AU control arms shorter than the eb ones, and more importantly do they fit? and is there a difference between the AU1 and AU2 ones

Your mates a d**k head!!! DO NOT under any circumstances grind cut or weld your control arms. EB and au run different off sets. Your best option would have been to speak to the place that you got your wheels from & tell them your plans from the start, they may have given you a couple of ideas on how to go about it ie. 1/2" narrower wheels with a different backspacing/ offset. And i don't believe that the au arms will fit into an eb.

thats wat i told him he was. and i was already aware that the offsets are different hence the spacers, and the wheels only came in the one width

then you did not really have any other options at the time of sale if you wanted those rims, you may want to look at a SMALL space to give you the clearance on the upper control arm, and get the guard inners rolled to give you the required clearance. other than that you would need to reinvent the wheel somewhat.

exactly. Not to mention dangerous if the offset is wrong, and illegal.

What size tyres?
And how wide are the rims?
You can take a bit off the upper arm, I had same clearance issue with a mates FR19s with 245s on them.
