HI there
I wanted to get an alarm from ebay 2 way pager lcd, remote start etc, i rang up a few places that installs 2 way pager alarms and the cheapest that i found was this company on the yellow pages, were they come to ur house and install it for $160 (autobarn $220 plus), but i was talking to that person who installs it and said to me that these falcons with smartlock, you will have troubles with the alarm, ie playing up or stuffing you around.
He said you need a alarm that upgrades your original smartlock system (in other words). Sounds about right.
Now is this true, or does he want me to buy his expensive alarm and install that in?
Or should i consider spending alot more, those more better brands (mongoose, rhino, viper etc) where u buy it and they install it?
2 way pager lcd with remote start etc with those brands your looking at 400 plus?

What do you's think.

remote start will void your insurace for starters
however it is possible to set it up in a falcon with a smartlock bypass so smartlock will be a non-issue, just remember that the cheap alarms are not approved so you will still have issues with insurance if the car is stolen.
Your better off just getting a normal approved alarm and adding a pager to it or if your really worried, install a tracking device that will also sms you if the car is moved / broken into etc

Your better of buying something that integrates with the factory smarlock or replaces the origninal functionality....like the CAM 101 I have fitted...

Any aftermarket alarm immob can be connected to the factory central locking. Smartlock isnt that smart, your better off using a complete aftermarket alarm / immob instead of an upgrade that piggybacks off the smartlock system

I just thought, as what that installer said is they piggy back or upgrade the original security. So you can just buy a new aftermarket alarm with immob, set you back a little more.

Whats a good know brand immob with alarm price range (installed). Price range for your basic alarm/immob to something like 2 way pager?

Thats right ... try not to think off it as piggy backing... they can integrate new systems with the factory smartlock system to incorporate new functionality and beefup the existing features...for the installers this also requires less f@rt arsing around with the existing system.

I run 2x security systems in my car but the factory alarm/immobiliser has been integrated into a CAM (Car Audio Masters) 101.

The CAM 101 can be either integrated with the ford smartlock system or used to replace it...either way it doesnt really matter. Comes with all black wiring to make life harder for the crims...its an alarm with dual stage immobilisers, keyless entry(integrates with factory central locking), code hopping etc....I cant remember off hand what the cost of that unit itself was as I also had a glass breakage and microwave sensor fitted.

See what your local car audio dealers etc off and recommend and just see what meets your requirements (such as need for pager system etc) and just quote around.

I'd avoid anything from Mongoose as Ive only every heard bad things from guys installing them, theres hornet which arent meant to be too bad (havent heard much about them tho to comment)... Viper are very reputable and offer budget systems right up to pretty extreme setups. If your after something that wont cost the world id look at either the CAM 101 or VIPER 330V (cheap uprgrade kit) or Viper 350HV comes with siren etc...

See how you go...best bet tho is too see what your local guys offer unless youre pretty keen to fit it yourself and then you can order elsewhere etc...depends on the features of the system to how hard they can become to install...some bigger systems have a s**t load of installation and wiring work.

Cheers
Kev
