Hey all,

When traction is lost, the backside of my car 'chatters'. To describe more accurately, it feels like axle tramp, but not at the drags, or traction control...(it doesnt have traction control)

I have replaced the rear shocks, shock mounts and a few other steering components, only to find the problem is still there.

It seems only to be from a standing start. The car drives perfectly normal otherwise with no noises or other vibrations.

As part of the suspension getting replaced, also had a 28 point check done...they picked up nothing wrong with the rear (other than the stuff they fixed).

So I am running out of ideas. Could it be a worn clutch? The clutch point is pretty high. It doesnt feel like its slipping, but I seriously dont know what else could be causing these 'vibrations' when there is no traction.

Car is a manual AU3 TE50.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Luke, try adjusting the clutch (19mm spanner) and another question, what tyres are you running and does it feel like it comes from one side of the car? another suggestion would be possibly changing the diff oil, sounds like the LSD could be playing up ala my AU

Yup thanks 67RCE. Once I get some money again its going to get a LSD service, have noticed a bit of a whine from the back as well, so might get both in one hopefully

The tyres are admittedly s**t (full run or some crap) which the previous owner put on...but at about $300 per tyre just for nankangs...I think they can wait. It never used to do this however so I dont think I can blam them.

Thanks mate, will def get the dif services soon.

Out of interest, what size rims have you got? Mine does a similar thing if I hook it out of a corner, but only since having the 19s on it.

19's...by co-incidence?!?!

I am starting to think now that maybe nothing is actually wrong and its just a quirk of the car (I heard these IRS AU's have a habit for this)...and words from mr_sperm1 also show it could be wheel related. And nothing actually 'wrong'

Bear in mind mine is an EF with a single spinner. It did have 16's on it and never did it then!
