Hey. You can get the 6x9s sitting flat in your parcel shelf by taking out your parcel shelf and tracing it onto a bit of mdf board. Then you just put it back in screw the mdf down and then put the parcel shelf back in. Will stop alot of the rattle doing it this way aswell.
But if you reall wanna go down the road of using spacers everywhere sells them. JB Autobarn repco etc. JB seems to have the best ones tho |

Daniel,
As above, i did that in my EA and worked a treat.. just cut the appropriate hole for speaker, and screw it into the MDF. No problems. |

They dont look as good.. i hate it when i see 6x9 raised up on the back shelf.. it looks heaps better when they are flush in the shelf. Its better to spend the time to get the results. |

This was said in the topic i started in the mods part.
"this was just asked over in the audio section, mdf across the whole shelf seems popular, probably sounds a lot better too... im still tossing up spacers or mdf shelf... i used an mdf shelf in one of my older cars and it worked a treat, sounded great too..." Do you mean put a mdf shelf over the steel shelf, or replace the steel shelf with mdf? thought id post it here too so daniel000 got the answer too |

ok done and done. I have just used spacers .
Now the problem is that the head unit will only sit on the bottom half of where the stacker used to go, close to the ash tray. Can you somehow get a shelf that will sit on top? because all i no is that the come as a whole with the shelf connected to the bottom side of it.... |

you cant replace the steel, its part of the car... if you cut into it ive heard it makes your car unroadworthy, though i doubt it would ever get picked up unless you made it really obvious... i havent looked at the shelf for a while but from memory the carpet is glued onto the steel shelf, not sure if it would just pull off or if you would have to cut out an mdf shelf, carpet that and screw it onto the steel shelf... i really need to get out and work on my car more...

Yeh i wasnt intending on replacing the whole steel frame behind the stereo.
I was looking at replacing the plastic around it which holds the ash tray and that, but i was looking for a shelf that will just sit on top. Ill show everyone some images of my situation. --- |
