can anyone advise me on which scanning tool i would need to buy for a 1996 series 1 el xr8, would it be a obd1 or a obd2 regards

they are not an obd plug they are a plug on there own depending on what you want to do you can pull codes without a scanner

Agreed. Unless you can get your hands on ford proprietary gear im not aware of a scantool that will pull codes from an E series.

Couple of alligator clips and an LED is all you need. Check out the tech doco!
