I have a 1992 EBII mont wagon, without smartlock, is it possable to install it????

any ideas are welcome..

wasnt smartlock standard untill au when it became smartshield? and doesnt it cover the immobiliser that has to be installed when buying a car? so if it doesnt have it how did you transfer the car?

Apr92-Sep92 EBII's didn't have it - Smartlock was introduced from Oct92.

To get back on topic, yes it can be fitted, but it's fiddly with the components that need to be replaced, e.g. ECU, ign barrel assy, BEM, etc.
Probably the most fiddly is the wiring.
IMO, you'd be better off installing an alarm - there are quite a lot of cheap chinese alarms on ebay - some would scoff at them, but for the money you can get some pretty good features - code hopping, remote start, etc. You can customise your alarm fitting which is an advantage also.

Smartlock was good in it's day, but look at some of the theft threads on here, and a std smartlock falcon is pretty much a sitting duck.

NP. You'd still need to wire in a smartlock module to get keyless entry, but you'd probably only need to wire it to the central locking, and to the tailgate release, as the immobilising is independent of this. I suppose you could pick up a unit pretty cheap from a self serve wrecker, and try this theory out.
You can also add a door actuator to the tailgate and connect it to the drivers rear actuator as per the EF/EL wagons, you can use the existing wiring, no need to add any. You will need to replace the existing tailgate solenoid with resistors so you can train the keyfob.

You could fit a central locking unit, but I'd still go for an alarm - have a read of http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55927 .

His wagon has CL already fitted, all he needs to do is connect the alarm to the lock/unlock lines.

Since when do you have to have an immobiliser fitted to sell a car???

wa government regs for a few years now require anycar that is being transfered to have an immobiliser unless its a tractor or such, or built prior to 1970 or something. if it dont have it you cant transfer it

Just FYI for anyone reading this thread..

I was an auto alarm fitter for many years, and I can tell you that that alarm mentioned on the ebay site would not class as a full government approved alarm even if it had been submitted for testing..

Full approved alarms have all black wiring for one thing. (makes it harder to see what goes where so you have to trace them all back to find out what to bypass if you wanted to get around it.)
