Guys I think my alternator has died and gone to heaven with no chance of resurrection. Just wondering what kind of price I would be looking at for a reco one or a new one.

Also does anyone know if the 85 amp alternator can be beefed up a little more? Similar to what Paulmac did but with less stuffing around, i.e I'll have an auto sparky do it...

Thanks

Forget spending that much i got my last one for $55- from a wrecker with a three month warranty. If you dont like secondhand i would get a price on a new one.

I was told around $300. The local servo rebuilt mine, now it runs better than ever. Not as much headlight dimming with bass notes ;)

LOL,
Kezz, I wouldn't call 15-20 mins work a lot of stuffing around and $100 for 110amp alternator, belt, bolt/nut seemed like good value at the time.
Re-co'd, as new, EF 110 amp alts are on E-bay ATM for $139 but they do need the above stuffing around. As Ghia97 says, you can get them from a wreckers, with varying warranties for under $100. EFs are 110amp, ELs are 100 amp.
A good sparky would be able to 'beef up' your 85amp Mitsubishi but if they quote you anywhere near $300 get another quote elsewhere or re-consider my way, it's not that hard or I wouldn't have done it.
Good luck,
Cheers,
Paul
