Just putting a T5 into the sons ute. Been doing some research and even some oil manufacturers recomment Auto trans fluid for this box but Penrite recommend their MANUAL GEAR OIL 70.
I read a couple of articles on using too thin oils in gear applications and they said that it could lead to increased gear wear with the high loads experienced which is amplified with more powerful engines producing greater loads. What are you guys using and has anyone had any bad experiences. |

Castrol Transmax Z worked wonders for my gearbox. Not cheap though as i could only find it in a 4 litre bottle for 70 bucks at SuperCheapAuto.
Its a fully synthetic oil |

Give Mal Wood Automotive in Warwick QLD a call to see what happens when you run anything else.
Transmax Z is a good choice |

You also need Lubrizol 7906 to add to the auto gearbox oil. Its made by Penrite.

I've put the Penrite gear oil in my XR6. So far no problems. Its been there for 20,000ks.
My XR8 still has auto trans fluid in it. I'll be doing a gearbox oil change and using transmax Z with the Lubrizol 7906 in it. |

+1 Transmax Z with Nulon (G12 I think) additive works great.

You shouldn't require any friction modifiers like G20 or Lubrizol when using Transmax Z, It has them in it.

Yep your spot on there. Transmax Z is to be used with NO friction modifier as it contains them all already. Adding extra may end up doing more harm than good. We dont pay $70odd for nothing Both me and a good mate are using the Transmax Z and we're both very happy with it, slightly smoother changes and reduced noise especially in the AU.

I use a mix of oils. 20% VMX80 and 80% ATF DEXIII with Nulon gear oil additive G70 or G90, can't quite remember the P#.
It works very well in hot & cold conditions. If you use too heavier oil, it becomes hard to change gears, coz the oil can't get out of the synchro hubs fast enough.

Rang Mal Wood and he backed the general concensus of you guys and Transmax Z would be the ducks guts for the T5. Thanks for all the input guys.
