Argh! Its been said over and over again, that a pod is really more of a waste of time unless its in a sealed box to reduce engine heat. And pods are only good due to the large surface area the outside of it presents. But a large panel filter isnt much smaller if it is at all. They make noise, are illegal in some cases, and in short, hardly anyone bothers with them as they arent worth it.

As Andrew said, the pod won't give you anything at all, it may in fact loose you power if you don't enclose it properly. A good panel filter is fine up to around 240kw. Its not the airfilter causing the car to feel slow, its the fact that the Windsor, in stock form isn't a great performance engine. Add some heads and a decent intake and they go really nicely. Also remember that most falcons run a high diff ratio which doesn't make them rockets off the line, even worse if its an auto with their bad 1st gear.

Agreed. The only worthwhile induction mod for a stock windsor involves an air pump!

Spot on, while everyone else is wasting money trying to get big rear wheel power, fit a blower or turbo and you have it from the start.

Sorry EDXR8, I will elaborate. I meant what air intake setups do high powered V8s use?

Well once above 240-250kw you can either modify the factory airbox with larger or extra intake piping, or go for a pod setup (hopefully shielded). I run a K&N pod filter in the front spoiler just below the headlight, then run 4" intake pipe in through the passenger side guard.

Looking at the cutaway Typhoon at the FPV Family Day - they have a 7" by 3" rubber snorkle that comes out of the lower half of the airbox and slides underneath the headlights. That sort of opening is more than enough for a 347....Will chase up some part numbers and see how feasable it is on an EF/EL

Shane Shane, I believe I have read/seen cases where non-F6 BA falcons have obtained a 'kit' to achieve this. I believe they are fitted in conjunction with the standard snorkel to pinch air from below the lights...will be interested to see what you find out for an e-series.... lol, obviously not much good for falcons without airboxes

Martin,
the turbo's still use the AU XR8 snorkle with the wings ground off them - the Typhoon has this and the extra rubber snorkle down the bottom which is about 3 times the size of an AU bigmouth. The lower snorkle feeds out to the underside of the headlight through a hole to the area behind the bumber bar. This is definately the "gun" upgrade for any BA owners. Shane
