This later EL XR8's rear axle ratio was lowered to 3.45:1 from 3.23:1 which made it the same as the XR6 for a significant improvement in performance off the mark. Only 784 of these final EL XR8 185 kW versions were made which makes them sought-after on the used market.

That is direct from http://www.fpv.com.au/index.asp?link_id=4.127

Quote:
your right Daniel ALL EF and EL XR,s had 3.45:1 LSD
EF & EL fairmont had 3.23:1 single spinner
longreach ute had 3.23 or 3.45 (auto or manual) but lsd was still an option on them even if it had a 3.45:1

hope this helps
i think ill take the guy who pulls them apart all day everydays word for it i also seen a 6cyl el fairmont ghia the other day at work and noticed the sticker 3.45 lsd but also it had a factory fitted heavy duty tow bar fitted maybe the diff is part of a tow pack???

That's not correct..

we have pulled apart plenty of XR's being 6cyl and V8's
every XR6 or XR8 we have pulled apart has had a 3.45:1 lsd
with the exeption of the BA that has a 3.46:1
and a EB2 XR8 manual that had a 3.27:1
we have done EF and EL XR8 auto,s and manuals maybe we have just been lucky :D

My Fairmont Ghia is fitted with a heavy duty tow pack. Maybe thats why its 3.45 LSD.

Seems I've got a lot of confusion started in this thread.

that'd be a 3.45 LSD - which means you need to use LSD oil! i've been told you can do some damage by not using the correct high-performance diff oil in the LSD's... :?

I went for a crawl under the 97 EL Fairmont Ghia V8 today and saw a sticker on the right axle and it had 3.45 LSD on it. I thought Fairmonts had a 3.23 diff but mine is 3.45.

Just 90 weight LSD oil.

I think castrol calls it LSX90, I could be wrong though
