G'day. I'm a new boy, just joined.
I'm having trouble removing the starter motor on my EF. The bottom bolt was easy but how the heck do you get at the top one?? I've got every spanner, socket and tool for any job but this bolt has got me beat. Any suggestions much appreciated. Cheers |

13mm socket - experiment to get the right length extensions - undo top first, then bottom, then vice versa to refit.
Don't forget to disconnect the battery -ve first - otherwise the spark show can get scary . . . .

put the bottom bolt back in first! as it will hold the motor in while u take the top bolt off u need a few extension bars!

I found the best way was a 13mm ratchet spanner mate.

I've always found it easiest from underneath - you preferably want the ratchet handle to just clear the front of the starter - being a lefty, I use my right hand to guide the socket and extension onto the upper bolt which I can only feel with fingers - same deal with the bolt when putting it in.
As Frank says, nip up the lower bolt to hold the starter in pozzy before fitting the upper bolt. Once you get the knack, shouldn't be any more than 10 mins to remove or install. Of course remember those two wires and battery -ve also.
