Soon, i'll be installing 2 X 12" subs in a ported box in the back against the rear seats. The current problem i have with my 1x12" setup is that not much bass comes through to the cabin while the seats are up.
I heard somewhere that EF series 1 falcons had a solid parcel shelf whereas later models had a vented parcel shelf. This was to help with cabin pressure, especially when closing doors? Was trying to find out if this would help my lack of bass problem, as other sedans i've listened to dont' seem to have this problem quite as severely. Right now i usually have to drive around with the seats down to hear bass, which is frustrating when i have passengers in all seats as it sounds like i have no sub!

maybe it's not your car but your stereo setup? are the box/es the right volume and correctly ported? are they good subs and are they powered properly? are they pointed in the right direction?

I had a twin 10" set up in my ZL fairlane with a custom parcel shelf and had the port from the box set flush with the top of the shely, so the ported sound came directly into the cabin, the suba were totally sealed and the only sound/air that came out was into the cabin, The 6x9's gave the punch and this rumbled like a couple of 15"s.

current sub setup is an infinity kappa perfect 12.1 running 4ohm off a JVC amp delivering about 350 - 400 WRMS. with the seats down the system thumps real hard, but once the seats are up its very quiet. phasing is all set correctly, have tried it with different phasing setups, not much change.
sub is in a sealed 1cuft box, as per sub specifications. i know that the equipment is performing as it should, just i don't know about whether its a vented shelf i'm after!

maybe try a ported box instead? the sealed boxes don't normally give as much reverberation etc as the ported ones.

do not use a ported box, they make the sub sound s**t!!
the best thing to do is to look at the manufactures specs for the sub, ie box size in litres! i did this with a 10" pioneer sub, from memory it needed to be 27 litres, that was recommended, i think it ended up being 28 or something but it sounded awesome! and make sure u have the sub pointing away from the position your listenin, because of the way it works the bass sounds better this way i know i didnt explain too good, but i had help from a pro settin mine up and these are things he suggested to me

ported boxes will sound fine when setup correctly, each to their own tho.
the current sealed setup i have is exactly as per manufacturers specs so i know that hardware is working as it should be. rear loading works for some cars, especially hatches. most installers i've talked to have recommended cabin firing for sub installs in sedans, or ideally having them firing upwards into the boot lid! i think i might experiment with sub positions, but even with the 40 split down it is slightly quieter than the full seats down.

mate i had i sony compertion explode with audioline 400x2 amp (200rms) in ported box in my ef and was loud enouf with no parcel tray porting or venting. now i have 2 kicker comp vrs running of a kicker kx600.1 amp and it is insane bass. if u have a vent in the parcel tray the bass will be more boomie rather than being filterd by the rear seats and parcel tray. my tip is more bass no shortcuts IG parcell tray venting. if u like the sound tho by all mean just giving my 2 cents worth
