Hey guys,
At the moment i have the stock 3.08 sinlge spinner diff. I was wondering if it is possible to get a 3.08 lsd, or can you get a single spinner and turn it into an lsd??? I only ask this because i want to keep my fuel economy! cheers

How will it help your fuel economy?

Believe it or not, my fuel range has increased by about 20km's a tank since getting 3.9 gears. The car barely has to try to get into 4th gear so is more efficient suburban driving. I'm only on the freeway for a short time each week.

lol at the sooks who worry about fitter shorter diff gears.
the fuel economy barely changes..... i think my economy went up 1/2 a litre per 100km's on the highway. So every 100km's its costing me .60 cents more with 3.7 diff gears..... But having said that, if your serious about acceleration, then lsd should be fitted with short diff gears as traction becomes non-existant. Ive got no chance of launching properly off the line with the single spinner combo i got now, which is why my 400m times are average. |

If your only doing freeway travel you will notice a drop in economy but with ordinary, mixed, driving we actually have been getting better economy since fitting the 3.45:1 LSD.
Our results agree with the fellas comments above, especially if you have town or hills involved in your normal driving range. The engine works a lot less, the traction is great and towing is much improved as is the fuel consumption with heavy loads. I think the LSD centres fit into your housing but there are quite a few good used diffs available now, Bunter recently had a v good 3.23 or 3.27 for around $200-250 complete, don't know if its gone. That would be the way to go and put it in yourself. Do a search on 'lsd install' or 'XR6 LSD install' etc to find threads with a lot of info. or costs. Typically: New, start at $1100, reco $800 etc Paul

Yeah i can see that, but i don't understand how a 3.08 SS uses more fuel than a 3.08 LSD? If anything, i thought a LSD would be harder to turn thus increasing fuel usage?

thanks for all the help guys.
But i really didnt get my question answered...Is it possible to get your single spinner converted to an lsd or not? And fuel economy isnt a huge issue, but its just that i have an ea series t5 so the gears are fairly short already! Thnaks
