I thought this would be a better forum to ask this question as more turboe'd engines have been built stronger for obvious reasons than in the NA forum.....
Anyway what i was wondering was what rod bolts would people recommend i use in my new engine? The engine in question will be a fully balanced 40thou over XG bottom end using an ef crank and polished and shotpeened std rods and ACL race series pistons and bearings etc,...... The reason i'm upgrading my bolts apart from insurance purposes is that the engine will be reved to 6 to 6.2.... Ive heard a rumour that ford winsor V8 rod bolts are the same size and can easilly be fitted? What are other people out there using? |

I'd source a AU block over ANY ED/EF bottom end.
It'll cost you less. Less work to be done. More options on rod/pistons.

It'll cost you less. Less work to be done. More options on rod/pistons. the options for rods and pistons are the same for any of the OHC engine excluding only the 3.2L as it has a much longer rod. the deck heights are all the same and big bearings are all the same. the only benfit and AU engine has over the early ones is the cross bolted main caps. it also has much larger main journals that are only a bad thing, they increase bearing speed.. and none of the other engines ever have problems with the crank or block that would warrent the need for the larger journals. I'd be using the EF/EL block purely to have the smaller main journals.. as far rod bolts go. there was a thread a while back that claimed mitsu 4G6 bolts fitted, but the easiest way would be find the next size up ARP bolt with the right length and have the rods bored to suit them.. |

I'm building a similar motor to yours and have been told that 289 windsor rod bolts fit, I still need to get it confirmed by my engine builder mate, but it might be something to look at.
Also try giving Atomic Motorsports a call they should be able to help you out IIRC they got ARP to design rod bolts for their BA motors.

the 289-302 bolts only fit the x-flow, not the 4l
