hi ppl, i have an 1991 eb fairmont, i am currently running a crow cam 2222549 & am having no end of trouble with idle probs, (yes i have a hp4 chip to try & smooth things over a little) my question is, should i get this cam reground or look for another cam from another maker eg:wade?? i only ask as i am very happy with the performance, but not happy when it stalls out or the amount of black smoke from the exhaust, i have a fresh engine (no more than 400 klm old), plus i run bp 98 fuel... have i f**ked up in my choice of cams???

Are you running the vernier cam gear to suit?

Has the car been tuned by Chiptorque or one of their dealers? If they're selling the cam and chip as a package, it should be able to be tuned to idle correctly.

Black smoke may not be just fuel problems, it could be stuck oil rings. Is the motor using any oil? I did a motor rebuild one time and had the same thing happening. Went through a litre of oil every 200km.

sorry guys, pc troubles. i contacted chiptorque & had the chip replaced & retuned, + (after a long search) i replaced the ecu with another unit with matching numbers, yes i have a new vernier cog, timing chain & gears , i have (not trying to sound like a sook) paid almost $800.00 trying to make my beloved fairmont run right, have come to the conclusion that it just wants to lay down & play dead... thanks for all your help, i am now looking at an bf xr6 tyfoon, maybe it'll play a little nicer than my last project?? + if anyone knows where there is a good xc hardtop shell with minimal cancer & no running gear for sale, please let me know......
