Will this work??? I bought me a nice complete EL Engine today with BBM and thermo's. Now its going into an EA MPFI so most wiring is fine but im a little unsure in regards to the BBM and switiching over the runners. Can this be achieved using the EA ECU or tricking it? Adding extra wires????
By the way im stoked about my new engine, '98 EL complete for $550 with all accessories including thermo's... |

Hey,
I believe the ecu should run the engine ok, but like everything, murphy's law could come into play. If you car is auto, then go and get an auto ecu from the wreckers, pretty sure pick and payless at Blacktown sells them for $50ish. You can switch the runners using a freguency switch from Jaycar, just set it to release the solenoid at 3800rpm, pretty str8 forward. I use the voltage switch from jaycar to swith the thermos in my 4wd, i just spliced into the temp sensor wire. At about 85deg, the voltage on the sensor is about 0.5V, this triggers the relays and on come the fans.....sweet as. Hope i helped. Cheers

you would be better off (performance wise) to fit a el ecu aswell.
ive been there and i had constant problems with timing and pinging with the ea ecu using a rpm switch. and by the time i adjusted the timing so there was no pinging it performed no better than the old stock 3.9.. ive fitted a au engine into a ea and using the el manifold ecu ect.. the car went from 110 rwkw std 3.9 ea mpfi to 133 rwkw with the au engine el manifold and el ecu.. |

Yeah thats wat im gonna do... buy an EL ecu! did u end up getting an auto or manual ECU as auto ones can get for cheap but manual ECU cost as much as the engine troyman? I got my 5spd EA gearbox im gonna use... i picked my engine up with only 98,000k's, but i guess its there word though, but all seals look good and the engine wasnt washed before i got it, no oil wither. yay!!!

i ended up using a auto ecu and did the resistor trick on the trans temp and the gearposition wires to the ecu.
im still on the look out for a manual ecu thats not rediculously over priced lol |

oh yea and as for the engine well i was lucky to see the car before the engine was removed..mine was $700 and had 77000 kms.
and when i removed the rocker cover to change the cam it was spotless inside and with a allround compression of just over 200 psi on each cyl i guess you cant get much frasher than that.. |

Slightly off topic, but what would you consider a reasonable price for a better ecu(set-up)?? Cheers Daz
