Have an EL Fairmont with a rear window that refuses to operate. I suspect it is the regulator/motor. Power supply okay. Makes a noise when depressing button but nothing happens.

Can anyone advise on how to remove the regulator/motor, they ahve some weird rivet type screws holding them in place?

Any help would be grateful.

Hi,

Grab a 6mm drill, a hammer and a nail punch, a 10mm socket and ratchet, and screwdrivers.

Unbolt the two 10mm bolts holding the glass in place. Unbolt the rear bailey channel. Remove the external weather strip that runs along the top of the door. There is a small screw/nut at one end. Lift the glass out of the door to the outside edge of the frame.

Use the hammer and punch and knock out the centre of the rivet.

Then use the drill and drill the rivets out. Unbolt the three 10mm bolts holding the slide to the door, unplug motor and remove.

Put the new motor in using three bolts and nuts in place of the rivets.

Install the other three bolts, plug in motor.

Install glass in reverse order.

Away you go.

Similar problem with the EF fairmont, window will wind down, but not back up. Does this need a new regulator/motor as well?

Okay window and all other bits and pices out. If I want to repalce original Ford rivets with bolt/nut what size do i need?

You want something relatively short, and that will just fit through the hole. You should use a spring washer, and I recommend using stainless so that it won't rust.

To work it out use your drill bits and find one that fits nicely through the hole with minimum movement, then take the drill bit with you to compare to the bolt diametre.
