Are you running in economy or power mode?
When towing it should be in economy mode.

hi
im not 100% sure but usually when the power economy light flashes it means the trans temp is to high?? or is overheating.

do you have a external trans cooler conected to the box?

TROYMAN is correct, its the trans high temp indicator, get a good tranny cooler and it should stop the problem, they also need to be more regularly serviced if you are towing a bit with them.

Whats your ambitent temp there at the moment, seems odd that both do it, but yeah it does sound to be a temp related problem. If your towing a lot, it may be worth upgrading the trans coolers, bypass the radiator one altogether and install the biggest PWR / Derale cooler you can find. In the long run, you will get more life out of the trans. And your not towing in 'econ' mode are you?

I've got a similar problem with my EF futura, got the 1600kg factory towbar fitted. Problem is the econ light comes on without me driving with a trailer and any extra load in the car (and a half tank of fuel). It even persists even at 100km/h pulling less than 2000 revs. Is it just a matter of giving the tranny a good service (the oil looks pretty discolored)?

pretty much as soon as the oil in these autos is discoloured or smells burnt its cactus and needs a service the heat is the biggest problem for these autos. keep it happy and many years of happy driving will result.
