Just picked up an EL futura 5 speed, at 4500rpm to around 5200 it gets quite a bad vibration. It has done 200,000km, is it likely the harmonic balancer is gone? (do the straight 6 even run balancers?). The vibration is there with clutch in and revving it, does not appear to be in the drivetrain.
It also has developed an oil leak, it is somewhere under the intake manifold and is dripping down onto the rack, it is quite significant, i havnt got the car up in the air to have a look, anyone had this problem before? Never buy a car from a car dealer!! |

Hi There
1. YES they have a harmonic balancer. Might need checking. 2. I'd still check the tailshaft ( see if there's a mark where a counterweight may have fallen off ) and uni joints. 3. Check engine mounts ?? 4. Check gearbox cross member is secure. 5. Loose flywheel ?? 6. Things I'd check for the oil leak.... Sump gasket Possible head gasket Timing cover gasket Oil pressure sender unit Oil filter loose Get it in the air for a closer look - ramps will probably do. |

It was the oil pressure sender pissing oil, i have pulled the radiator out and the rubber on the balancer looks very average, maybe it has slipped?
it makes the vibration with the clutch in and in neutral so all i can really imagine is loose flywheel (hope not) or balancer, any other ideas?? cheers |

sounds like it could be the flywheel bolts like gutza sugested. i had the same problem after doing donuts in my mitsubishi lancer (2.6ltr) it had bad vibrations also. the crank had to be redrilled and tapped with larger flywheel bolts cos the only other alternative was to rebuild it with a new crank.
other than that i would have no idea, its probably best to get a mechanic to check it out.
