Hi my mate just got a EF falcon futura 4.0L auto, hes a mechanic and he just put the EF XR6 head on it and serviced the car so its running nice. We had a quick squirt last night and his car couldn't keep up with mine at all. We both booted it from 50ks and stop at around 120k and i ended up being around 3-4 cars infront. I thought the XR head would of helped the car quite a bit, do they actualy make much difference compared to the standard one?

Well that depends. Is it just the head? or the head, cam, springs, fuel regulator and ECU? If he doesn't have the ECU or the fuel regulator I think that might be his choking point. But that's just a guess. phong =P~

it's got the head, cam and springs. Everything else standard. He said it went alot better with that head, but i dont think my car should be that much of a difference or should it?

Does he have the same mods as you? Also when he put the head on did he adjust the timing on it? Though I think he needs to upgrade the fuel regulator to the XR spec and then change the ECU to an XR one too to get the full potential of the XR6 head. Could be many factors as to why his car isn't running as well as it should...could be a vacuum leak or something as well. phong =P~

the xr6 head had minimal design changes from the stocker. better off spending the money at a good head joint and get a proper flow job done. when you think about it a redesign of the head, springs, cam, ecu and fuel reg only netted an increase of 7 kw and 9nm the changes to the head would be minimal indeed. a good set of extractors and exhaust should net around 10kws on average and about the same in torque. so a falcon with a good custom exhaust setup and a 3:45 diff should be able to pip a stock xr6 from post to post. around a track the xr would still win due to better suspension setup.
most of the gains in performance with the XR6's was from the 3:45 diff. although early on when the stock falcon ebs were punching around 140-5 kw the Xr's 161 was mind bogling lol. heres a comparo http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/ve ... 3&id=62909 only .2 secs to 100k's in official testing.
