not really, only 100kg heavier than a sedan, bare in mind that a ute doesn't have the full length roof for ragidity so they have to put in larger chassis rails underneath so it doesn't fold in half.

If you are looking at getting a BA XR8 ute dont worry about traction problems all you need are a set of half decent tyres . the only time you have traction problems is when you want to But you can expect a large tyre bill if you drive hard i have done 50 000 Ks and gone through 3 sets of rear tyres and 1 front set . If you do get one Happy Holden Hunting

I tend to disagree with the traction issues about the BA XR8... good tyres aint really gonna help traction, just help drain your bank account. I got $400 Pirellis on the back, sticky as a cat to carpet and they only done me 9,000k's and i dont flog the crap out of it. Theyre just so light on the back end, you hit a tram track or inspection plate in the road while your accellarating (not even hard) and you can feel it break traction.....

The key to traction is weight distribution and the compound of the tyre. Obviously weight distribution is harder to achieve so the biggest improvements come when changing tyre compounds. On a ute however, a tyre can only do so much as there isn't much weight in the back there...

I have had the original set of tyres Dunlop SP 3000s not much grip, Toyo
Proxes T1-S ok but not cheap then a set of Dunlop SP 9000s not as good as the Toyos all these were around $400 a tyre I then put on a set of Federal 595s and im very impresed only $150 a tyre and a s**t load of grip i have done 9000 Ks on them and they are lasting very well unlike the Dunlops. |
