I as wondering if someone could explain to me what the green stuff on my battery terminal is. I know how to get rid of it ( Baking soda and warm water) but I was wondering what actualy causes the deposit, and what is a good way of preventing its re-ocurrence

Cheers

The build up is corrosion from the acid and lead oxidation. After you clean it, you can get this stuff in a spray can from the auto shop that coats it in something that prevents it from further corrosion. Stuff I had sprayed on yellow, others sometimes spray on red.

Thanks for that. After doing a search on the wwwthingy, I have come to the conclusion that Vaseline is the best to use, and I must clean off the battery top, as the dirt can cause a path for the oxidants to the terminal.
Electrolyte height in the cell may also be an issue I think.
