hi guys
does anyone know what size is the std au throttle body is? the reason i ask is http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... =p3907.m29 if you read the discription it says that the std au throttle body is 74mm? and there one is 78mm.. i have no intentsion on buying it..lol i always thought the au throttle body was 65mm like the e series. as im currently using a el throttle body. personally i think its a miss print and they might mean 64mm to 68mm? i cant see the au having a 10 mm larger throttle body than e series can anyone confirm this?? |

has anyone here got the standard throttle body bored out and larger butterfly valve fitted?
I couldnt imagine it would cost very much, and "should" be alot cheaper than paying 500 for the aftermarket ones |

if the AU had a bigger throttle body wouldn't it mean it would end up having more power then the 157kw on ef/el/au

stock t/body on an au is 65mm unless it has the tickford wings on it then i think its 70mm. and yes au t/body is bigger than e series, 58mm for e series i think. i wouldnt bother moding a stock t/body, just as easy to get one from the states for under $200us plus freight.
edit, oops only just noticed this is in the 6cyl workshop, forget what i said

I think it would mean it has the potential for more power, in combination with other intake improvements.

outright top end power does not tell the whole story. For example, i recently had a chip fitted with custom dyno tune and whilst i only gained a couple kw in outright power, the torque increase throughout the rev range was significantly higher. Theres a s**t difference the way the car feels now with the chip and feels quicker even though the top end power was only increased marginally on the graph With regards to the throttle body size, i would consider it a waste of time if you didnt bore out the hole in the bbm to match the size of the enlarged throttle body hole as well |

That is a very good point. The complete intake from the airbox through to the inlet on the BBM would need to be maximised for the full effect. BenJ

well after some measuring .
the e series throttle body is 65mm and the hole in the manifold is 70mm. so i think there is a gain to be had but i doubt it would make that much difference.. i wouldnt risk spending $400 on that ebay one for a mod that may do nothing. but if there is a std throttle body that will fit and is larger than 65mm i think its worth a try.. i havent measured a au one yet .. but i have also heard that the xf throttle body is larger than std e series? has anyone got a xf one they can measure for me?? otherwise ill be going on a wrecker mission to do some measuring. |

the e-series tb is only 64mm not 65mm, i have done my research on this years ago and joe at cms can back me up on this aswell
not worth changing for any bigger unless you are making big power as increase will only be very minor not worth the bucks..

Hey,
80mm throttle body on ebay for $150.00, not sure i would muck around for that price, easier to just buy it. Same ones anodised for $279.00....yeah right!!!. What about a twin throttle body conversion for the BBM manifolds??? Just an idea i had. Cheers Daz
