Gearbox over heating?.... If it has a oil cooler that runs off the radiator, it may be blocked with metal shavings.. go to my mate greg @ Hoxton Park Auto Parts.. 02 98258011... Buy a Oil cooler, and the plastic mounting thingy's, plus a meter of hose, 4 clamps (efi are the best) and 2 fittings so the pipes can be re-joined, forget what they are called..,,
Mount the new cooler on the radiator, make sure it can get plenty of air flow (carefull!! dont bust any of the radiator cores!! its easy to break!!!!!).. and in the front of the radiator, where the bumper has the big opening.... Cut the out pipe from the oil cooler off the radiator, join that to the oil cooler, then the out line from the cooler to the out hose that you cut from the radiator... Get the drift.. I did it once to my 351/FMX box, it loved it.
Im not sure how to open the oil cooler on the radiator, but its prolly has metal shavings in it, try to clean it out. Also next time you service the box, chack that it had magnets on the sump.. they tend to melt after high K's...

Anyone have any advice on the cooler?

Just had a big drama with my ea now. Driving along and the bang revs fly up and down car complete shuts off and smoke comes through the fire wall. Car has no nothing not even the hazzards would come on. Had a look under the bonnet noticed a wire had blown and not to sure what else till i have a proper look. There must have been a short somewhere. When i changed the dizzy and coil there was a little silver thing(not sure what they call it) that was hocked up to the earth wire not to sure what it was for but it broke off and i never put it back on just hocked up the earth wire to the body. What is this for this little siver thing and could it have been my problem?

its a small capacitor, used to stop poping in the radio system, most cars have them usually coil mounted on older cars

thanks for that so it wouldnt have had anything to do with the short out?

could have as that lead goes to coil positive and if it broke of at the capacitor end someone might "think" to earth it

so it isnt ment to earthed to the car? Then how come it is bolted to the engine if it is a postive?

IGO,
one end of the capacitor is connected to earth, the other to the +ive supply from the battery. If I understand you correctly, you earthed the capacitor the correct way. But the wire that you said had broken off, that should have been connected to the other end of the capacitor, may be swinging in the breeze and might have contacted the engine block or other metal part.
Looking at my EL circuit diagrams, the capacitor +ive wire connects to the battery thru a fuse. I have my doubts that this would have caused the smoke, then again, I could be wrong, but it bears further investigating.
