I've got a boat trailer here in need of some freshening up. I've got a steel brush in the angle grinder to remove the rust flacks from the half that gets dunked in the water. After that I was going to put some rust converter phosphoric acid stuff on it.
But I'm not sure what to paint it with - a mate said to use Cold Gal? Any ideas? |

do u want to bush it or spray it??? kill rust if u want to bush it. did it on out boat trailor worked a treat. or you could 2 pac it like the ski boats??

Sorry should of mentioned that the reason I'm freshening up the trailer is because I'm selling the boat. So I really don't want to spend any more time or money than the minimum that is required.

Cold galv is good for it, though it has a powdery finish and I dont know how that goes with water.
Hot Dip Galv is the way, Cold Galv it if you cant get it dipped. Also another tip is if you have a hollow draw bar, run the hose in it after each trip. Any stagnant salt water will eat through if it hasnt been hot dipped.

been there schnoods, I have to relace my draw bar completely as it is totally rusted out at the bottom.
and I used to hose it out.. This time I am thinking of something different (spray rust kill and then tar inside the shaft or something if I can't get it dipped. |
