Just wondering how one could tell the difference between a 3.3ltr head and a 4.1ltr head. As I have found one "on the side of a road" and I am unsure of which particular head it is.

Any info, or photos would be great.

Cheers.

According to the genuine Ford w/shop manual, nothing, the only difference is comp ratio from XD to XE, only by the chamber volume.
The numbers being refered to are ones like HF1, HF3, HF5 and HF7.
HF7 is unleaded XF.

i have a XE hi comp crossflow head bolted on a XC bottom end, XC being a leaded engine had a smaller dish piston, cheap trick for more power.

the different heads were to my knowledge :
alloy head 1 xd series 2
alloy head 2 leaded xe xf
alloy head 2 leaded injected xe xf
alloy head 2 unleaded xf update
alloy head 2 unleaded injected xf update
3.3 4.1 high comp and medium comp were all about the piston dish!!!!
haven't got stamps n numbers but injected generally had e1 or c1 on inlet side...
