hi,

as some of you know im running a megasquirt ecu in my el ghia.
its setup piggy backed to the stock ecu which allows the majority of everything to work correctly.

however with my new motor i have elimintated the maf sensor which of course confused the s**t out of the stock ecu causing it to give bad readings on the trip computer.

the trip computer is fed by DOL which is a problem because i cannot replicate it with my megasquirt.. what i need to know is does the early e series trip computer also feed off DOL? (ie ea-d) or does it have seperate injector, fuel level speed etc inputs?

if so how feasable would it be to make the insides of a eb trip comp fiut inside the el unit, allowing everything to work again?

i know its not really important but it would be nice to have everything working as it was.

any input appreciated, especially if anyone has the pin outs for the ea-d trip computer????

cheers
mitch

well i found the ea-d trip comp pin out

http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=82

now all i need to do is aquire one and see about pulling it apart :)

the other question would be, if the trip comp is expecting standard (19lb) injectors & im running 24's
one injector pulse will squirt more fuel than the trip computer is expecting making the instant average and distance to empty reading inaccurate?

The climate control gets DOL input also - are you getting E6,E7 or E8 errors?

EB/ED TC to EL ECU : http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=60662 . I'm a bit skeptical on the accuracy with this - the EB/ED TC does get DOL info (well sort of), so if all that was needed was to hook up to direct injector pulse, I would've thought ford would've done this, than rather go to a separate PWM DOL output (does this make sense how I've written it?)
As obvious as it sounds, it may be better to refit the MAF somewhere to keep the std ECU happy - then the TC & CC will all fall into place.
I know there must be a good reason why that can't be done ?

i dont get any errors with the climate control, the stock ecu still has alll its inputs bar the maf (PIP is replicated).

i understand what you mean about the PWM DOL link, however im unfamiliar with exactly what info the pwm link contains, ie has it got a feed from both injector banks or just one? if it were a feed from both banks im sure i could make it work with a couple of diodes..

as for refitting the maf it cant be done. my car runs 8 throttlebodies and is hence tuned in alpha-n, i would have prefered to maintain a sensor for air metering but its unfortunately too difficult..

its not the end of the world if i cant make it work it would just be a nice finishing touch.. but i question the accuracy of it as im running larger injectors :?

cheers for the info and the link, ill continue to ponder..

Yeah, I'm tuned in now.
I wonder whether you can simulate the MAF input for the std ECU - looks like it's a voltage proportional to speed, something maybe like a jaycar speedo corrector hooked up to VSS might do it.

Don't know whether the input is a signal, or just straight DC input.

I think adapting a EB/ED TC will be a challenge - you'll need to retain the EF/EL LCD, and have the EB/ED circuit board drive it maybe - also depends if the LCD's run same operating inputs.

The EB/ED TC's receive separate inputs, as opposed to the EF/EL combined in the DOL, but as I say, I think the EB/ED injector pulse may be combined with something else (it's own DOL). On the positive, I think I6 and V8 TC's are the same EB/ED, as are EF/EL.
