Hey guys,

im looking at buying a 1987 XF S-Pack sedan, i just want some opinions first from the experts :)

Firstly, the car has done 411,000km, on the ORIGINAL clutch (T5 Gearbox), it was Driven from Port Lincoln to Andamooka and back (i think about 1500km return) every month for its whole life, by a fella in his 70's, so the gearbox still feels nice, the clutch shudders a bit in reverse though.

Its on LPG (4.1 Carby model), i dont think the motor has been opened up at all, dosent blow any kind of smoke whatsoever, its still nice and quiet, and the interior and exterior are absolutely immaculate apart from some stone chips, which is understandable from 400,000km of highway driving.

it even has the original factory driving lights with the original covers, although they dont work at this stage.

now, he's asking $1,300 for it. Do you guys think this is a fair price? i dont have any pics of it at tis stage.

and what things should i look for when i go look at it again?

cheers fellas.

if those k's are country there on the highside still but if the motors good then go for it.

new motors are worth nothing these days. and those motors are great, they can just keep going etc.

here is my list of things i look out for when i buy xe;s and xf's. im onto my 5th and i love em

1. door hinges, check to see if the doors align properly
2. check all door handles
3. if its electric windows ensure they all work
4. rust (boot lid, rear 1/4s, door sills and under doors)
5. xd/xe check negative earths, check to see if brake lights fade when indicators are on etc etc,
6. power steering box's leak fluid now they are old
7. check for oil between block and transmission, signs of rear main seal wear.
8. xd/xe indicators shaft/assembly fail easily and cost a fortune to buy working ones
9. if its been in storage/hasn't moved check rear handbrake assemblies for seizure
10. check every lock barrel as they are bad on xseries
11. if its lowered check for tail shaft marks.
12. xf check head light mounts as they break easily.
13. if its a 4spd manual, check the shifter as they commonly fail
14. xf the main switches around the cluster as they screw up occasionally (head lights etc).
15. if its on dual fuel check that it runs on petrol fine
16. centre console lids breaks easily as well as centre consoles mounts. (NEVER use the console as a support when hopping in and out of a xseries)

for more info i highly recomend u have alook over at xfalcon.com

remember to say bigcav sent u lol

throw $1000 cash at him if your serious, ie take 20 $50 notes. normally works a bit better than tyring to barter

I just bought an XF fairmont Ghia with 5 snowflake mags with the rare ghia center caps, Running Dual Fuel, Brand new boots, new radiator, new battery, done 220xxx km/s, not a trace of smoke or oil leaks, had one door handle which didnt work (rod came out of plastic but took me 10mins to fix), immaculate interior, not a scuff mark, burn mark, anything, and i paid $800 for it. Sure the paint work isnt the best, but its white (Z) so a respray will be cheap as chips especially since im a good painter ;), Ill have this baby looking amazing for under a thousand bucks. i personally think you are getting ripped off... i cant say for sure because i havent seen your car but i have owned about 12 X series cars now and i havent paid over a thousand for any of them
