If its a repairable writeoff you can buy it back and fix it. They inspect it pretty hard though before it can be rego'd again. If its a stat writeoff it will be unsafe to repair (chassis cracks/bends etc) Call an insurance company though. when a vehicle is written off it has something to do with the market value, repair cost vs how much they can wreck the car for. If they can get most of the value back from wrecking it they'll write it off. My 05 courier had $17k worth of damage when 1 year old and they repaired it. Dont judge me on the above, its what the panelbeater told me.

Correct and you also need a filing cabinet full of every single receipt for every part you purchased for the repair. In short, you'll never get your money back on a repairable write off. And only a complete f**k would write their own car off for the sake of an insurance payout, then repair the car expecting to be ahead financially. Insurance companies are not dumb. They've thought of this already.
