Hey all,

I have and NA fairlane with an EF motor AU head and EL injection. My car blows smoke (i think blue) when at high revs, but it performs very well. I would think that the rings are worn and they are letting oil out (which could be the case) but for that to happen wouldnt I loose power? I have my timing advanced and I am running bp ultimate constantly and If i put normal fuel in it pings, I dont mind this but could this have anything to do with the rings wearing/oil getting past? I have 15w40 oil in it. I am not going to fix this motor if that is the case but if anyone has tried the 'stop smoke' additives please let me know how you went.

Cheers,
Mark

blue smoke usually =oil
pinging could be timing (crap fuel also does it)
stop leak is temporary
all cars blow smoke at hight revs (not usually blue tho)

Dont use additives they are a waste of time!!
You might as well go buy thicker oil.
Try changing your oxygen sensor, how old do you think the one on it is..
Mine use to do that, i changed that, it seemed to fix the problem.

it sounds like the oil rings are worn..
if the compression rings are atill good you might find the car will still go good .
it might actually go better as the oil entering the combustion chamber is actuall helping with compression..
the only thing i suggest you can do is try a thicker oil..

The oxygen sensor is ignored at wide open throttle, it's only used in closed loop mode.

thanks for all of the quick replies! I will go a thicker oil next time I service (shouldnt be far away). I am using 15w40 would the next best bet be 20w50? An I have a spare oxy sensor there I might as well change that too. Cheers

i forgot to mention do a compression test too if you think things are worn. I changed my sensor, and my fuel economy went from 14 l/p/h to 10.6. Thats a big change and fuel saving. It also stopped blowing smoke out the a*** end too when i changed it regardless of what others say.

Have a go at puting in a Grey PCV valve. They have a smaller hole in them.
