Hey,
i think its my rotors but here for other peoples opinions when i brake above 60k's i get a harsh shudder in the steering wheel, and its not the normal abs in and out the wheels are balanced and the wheel bearings are good, anyone else have any ideas, let me know, the car is an NL fairlane Cheers Tezza

While your lookin at your rotors, check the condition the rack ends & tie rod ends.

yea cheers cjh, they are on the list of things to replace, they look good but hey, i will already be down there, and it cant hurt the car, just the pocket

Check that the caliper slides are free & not all goooed up. Replacement slides & seals are available from most spare parts outlets, usually quite a lot cheaper than at your local friendly Ford (Fraud) dealer.

Guys - not sure what others thoughts are on the warping issues - but from my experience I've found that higher performance aftermarket pads such as Bendix Ultimates or similar are not ideal for the standard rotors and you'd be much better sticking with standard type pads. I had Bendix Ultimates installed all round on my old EF (as part of a Midas brake system refresh package) and had endless troubles with warped rotors (got them machined twice under warranty). I think the higher performance pads simply outperform what the rotors are designed to handle (heat, force etc.) and this is what causes the hassles. My advice would be to stick either with regular pads on standard rotors if just maintaining the brakes - otherwise install better rotors with better pads if looking for better braking performance. It'll be cheaper in the long run and they'll work together better and for longer...
Just my two cents - but hope it helps someone out. |
