Hey all, I've just installed a trip computer into my EL which used to have a clock. I have ran all 3 wires including my data line using info from the technical document which was great. But i'm having the problem which is apparently really common according to the troubleshooting print on the document, where my display only illuminates when a button is pressed on the computer. It says to ensure good electrical contact on the data feed line and that there is no quick and easy solution to fix. Has anyone had the same issue when they installed theres and can they give me some tips please???
Cheers Bevo

Ok, I haven't had that problem, anyway, quick question how did you fit the data line to the instrument cluster plug?
Also, have you driven around with it or just tested it and if so make sure the key is to on and not just accessory, as that is how it acts when in accessory.

I had troubles with mine. Its all in the doco, just read and troubleshoot through that. From memory one of wires, I think the light wire might be loose.

Make sure you do actually have the correct 'data' line, theres a EEC Module Input thats got a blue wire there already... thats not it.

You have to ADD a wire.

Turn the plug upside down, and try again?

I used some 0.5mm wire and stripped it about an inch back. then i twisted the strands and soldered the tip. then i fed it through the correct hole in the back of the plug and cut it flush with the face of the plug so that the cluster pin makes contact with it. hope this helps

I'd say thats the problem then!

Loom plug is male with internal female pins.

Try holding 2 pins together tip to tip.

Obtain a spare plug from a wreckers it'll save troubles later.
