id change the oil, take the plugs out and turn it over by hand, should be fine... not sure how quickly the motor will build oil pressure, maybe just crank it with no plugs and the fuel pump disconned so that oil pressure comes up before actually firing the thing up...

as long as its covered and away from moisture it should be ok..
i had a 4ltr engine that sat under a carport with the manifolds still on it and it sat there for 7 years..
after fitting it to a mates ea we did put a small amount of oil in the plug holes.
it still turned over it wasnt seized and it fired up but was rattley for a good 1/2 hour or so .
un fortunatly we had to remove the engine after a week as all the seals and gaskets had rotted and it leaked like a seive.
otherwise it was fine.lol

so if its only been sitting for 8 months it will be fine..

all i would be worried about would be the gaskets,,get some wd or similar and spray around the gaskets to wet them so they can expand again.
