Can anyone tell me what the 'Modulator Mirror Controller' is and does? It is part number 'AU2 17E704 A' and while its says it's an AU part, it was found doing a lookup on BA parts.

Is it a part of the Memory Mirror system that integrates with the underseat Memory Module, or am I off on some sort of wild tangent?

I can't see how the Memory Module knows where the mirrors are pointing (closed-loop feedback) in order to know which motors to activate in order to set them for another driver or reverse dip, and I'm wondering if this module is somehow involved in providing that 'feedback'.

Given that it's an AU Part, would AU LTD Mirrors and door harnesses be the same as that required for the BA perhaps?

I worked it out.

Normal mirrors take a Polarity-Based triplet of wires that switch between open circuit, 12V and GND to drive the 2 x mirror motors in each direction.

Hi series Mirrors with Memory are digitally controlled, in that they still have 3 wires, but they consist of a 12V, a GND and a Data Line. These wires also connect directly to the Memory Module so that the Mirror Position can also be set by that controlled.

The Mirror Modulator is the converter - it connects to the normal Mirror Switch and takes the 3x Polarity Signals. On the other side it runs the High series lines as mentioned to the mirrors and the memory module.

This stuff is not described at all in the BA Manual, but it is covered in just enough detail in the AU diagrams to be useful. The Connector names, line numbers and Colours are all identical between AU LTD and BA Fairmont.

Yeah, I've got a controller here, and 2 x Memory Mirrors. They have AU2 part numbers on them, as well as the word 'Grizzley'.

It appears they were developed for the AU2 LTD.

A bit of trivia though - the clockspring (14A664) goes back to the EF, and the rear footwell lamp lense goes back to the EB.

On another note, the clockspring, with part prefix 3W1T, looks like it might actually come from a Lincoln Town Car. Even the workshop manual says something along these lines.
