Is it wise to buy a running EF i6 motor for $100? Got offered one on the weekend, I`ve seen it running and there was no clunks, funny smells oil in water and vice-versa. Complete fan to flywheel, he`s even going to throw in the airbox, vac switch and tubing for the bbm. Also would it be easier to swap this into the ED or just do the BBM conversion and serp belts on the existing motor?

he mustnt know what there worth... either that or the motor may run fine but has had a hard life, and/or 300,000km+.

I don`t think he does. The car itself has 160k on it and going by the engine number and chassis number it is legit. I was thinking who cares, it`s worth it just for the BBM

Much easier to swap the complete engine in IMO. You can use your ED distributor, coil, engine loom [with a few mods], get an EL ECU and accelerator pedal and cable, EF/EL fans and radiator at the wreckers. Get an EF/EL map sensor too in case your ED one plays up after installation.
Search for Benj's recent EL engine conversion thread for a complete list of what you need, especially heater hoses and fuel lines. Cheers, Paul

lol, same here.. I started looking for a head and bbm from an EL motor to put on mine, the guy didn't want to pull it off the motor as he had better things to do, so he said he only wanted 20 bucks more for the whole thing... so I took it immediately.
still gotta find an ECU however... |

In my case, I'm also waiting for a guy I know to pull the 5spd out of an XR as well as the diff...
Once I have all the bits I need, I'll tell you all who this guy is and how to get hold of him, because he wrecks several E series fords a week and is dirt cheap. I'm not telling anyone yet though because I don't want to have to compete with people from this list for the bits I need. selfish I know, but I have limited resources due to wife and daughter..... Only useful to Perth people with E series cars, but there seems to be quite a few on here. |

Thanks Paul, I've left a message asking if he has the plug with the EL ECU because it's no good to me without it..
wonder what shipping from QLD would be like for an ECU.... |

Not much, they're light and can fit into a post office padded bag.
Most wreckers will let you cut out a connector because they've already chopped up the loom when wrecking the car. Cheers, Paul
