Hi folks,

I have checked the site fro the symptoms and think my ED Futura BCM bit the dust. I have replaced the BCM - done the famous "30Minute" thing and still not firing.

Stock standard Futura, ED, 1994
Engine is turining over and not starting
Central lock, boot and petrol release not operating.
Driving along and it cut out.
When replacing the BCM the jewel was flashing. It had stopped by 30 minutes
Smartlock comes on when turining key to "ON" and then then goes off.

I am at a loss now. Help!!!

p.s. Somewhat peeved that such a trivial thing as a PCB failure cna disable a perfectly mechanically sound car! Going to get that 63 Mustang I want!!! :D

When you say it is not firing what do you actually mean? There is no BCM on an ED, are you talking about the Smartlock Module?

I would love to see your chances of getting a 63 mustang! unless you are talking about some type of boat.

seriously I had a buggered wire which gave the same symptoms. Give the pins a check first to make sure that the corrcet voltages are going into and out of the module.

the problem will most likely be the smartlock module not the BCM.
Did the door locks cycle over? as the recognition of new smartlock/ignition will not be recognised until this is done

As above, are you referring to the RED module?
I just replaced the red Smartlock module, located behind the plastic fascia, above the handbrake handle [easier access with the cluster out] on my 'new' ED T5 Futura for the same symptoms.
I had to hold the key in the FULL start position and bang the plastic above the handbrake handle to re-start every time BenJ and I stopped between Wagga and home on Easter Sunday. Easter Monday put in an EB2 module, waited 30mins, ign on, all fixed.
Cheers,
Paul

check the ignition wires for wear and the ignition assembly itself

Thats right because ED's don't have a BCM.

yes they do, even eb2s had bcms.

the smartlock module is red and the fairmont bcm is green and i think the futura/xr bcm is blue but youd have to check first and im not sure on the gli bcm.

bcm is on the right hand side of the stereo sitting vertical next to the smartlock module which is sitting horozontal above the hand brake

lol no ed's dont have a bcm so all the electrics in the car are controlled magically..... yes as above mentioned it will be the red box I was in belief it took and hour to synchronize it with the car ignition on and wait for door locks to cycle

ive had 2 ed's and the smartlock modules are a pain in the a**, both my ed's modules need to be hit to make it run at times... one it wouldnt crank till you hit it and the other wouldnt send the enable signal to the ecu so just cranking.

The BCM you guys are refering to is actually called a Central Controller on E series up to ED, and has very limited functions .

BCM/Central Controller is the same thing

On the EDs:
Low Series - BLUE - 1 plug
High Series - GREEN - 2 plugs

RED - Smartlock

The Ford BCM, or BEM to use it's correct term, as used on EF's etc, is an integrated module combining central controller, smartlock and many other functions, unlike the simple C/Controller.
