Not completely true : There are a lot of systems that have been turbo'd succesfuly.
Try the GasResearch System... seems to be the easiest. There is a small premium over a normal system, but not like the injected kits. Nigel |

Newer GRA mixers will leak under boost.
I would suggest you start with an Impco 225, it will get you to approx 200rwkw. |

the viali stuff doesnt work well if at all with boost from what iv been told. the gas research stuff is pretty good, im using two B2 converters and an impco 425 mixer on my coon. hopefully getting it tuned in the next few weeks. i'll post results when its going. aparently the gas research mixer/ throttle body is a prick to tune aswell hence going the impco.

i got GRA stuff on my EF.
i had it tuned once about 2 years ago. then bolted the turbo on. checked AFR's... not far off, small DIY tuning and it was all good. out of interest where do they leak boost?

leaking around the moving parts that are open to atmosphere, metering rod assembly I would suspect, have heard many reports of the newer units leaking under boost, and one of my mates who had an old an older one then through trailing many things got a newer one, and it leaked like mad he said. Too many reports of this ofr it to not be true. It will not cause any problems, but would be annoying none the less I imagine.

How do the Impco 225 & 425 mixers relate to the carburettors of the same model number shown in the Impco catalogue?
Which is bigger out of the 225 and 425? The Impco catalogue says the 225 is rated something like 237hp and the 425 at 287 or so hp. A boosted I6 would easily crank out 350hp, so neither sounds big enough. But I know there are plenty of ppl running boost through them & getting much bigger numbers. In any case TurboTaxi is getting good results from a plain ordinary mixer ring with a big Landi-Renzo convertor on a turbo'd (7psi approx) AU wagon. It goes harder than his XR6T which is stock apart from the SVI system. He has over 50,000 reliable km up on the AU now.

things flow more with boost, so whatever rated output they have for n/a will be higher with boost.
like I said earlier the 225 will easily reach 200rwkw, you can tickle them a bit also, but I'd say 220rwkw woul dbe the absolute limit, once they start getting restrictive the mixtures get too rich. yeah the mixer ring setup is nice and simple too. |
