If you are talking about the standard cluster gauge then you need to check a few things. Check the sender on the LPG tank. See what range it is. Mine is a 0-90 Ohm and full reads 3/4's for me, sometimes a little more. The correct one for falcons is 0-170ish. But the cluster actually reads from around 8-176 or something like that. Try adding a 10 Ohm resistor to the circuit to try and match the standard cluster.

i dont have LPG, i thought the sender float arm might have worn a bit?!

OK then.... Fuel systems can get a bacterial growth in them. Kind of looks like a slimy rust. You can buy fuel treatments that kill the bacteria or you can pull the fuel pump, which has the float and sensor attached and give it a good clean. When they fail they normal just stop, not a partial failure.

They are just a big old fashioned variable resistor. You have a tight coil of resistor wire with an adjustable sweep that moves with the float. This changes the resistance of the circuit thereby changing the voltage flowing to the fuel gauge.

sorry to dregde up an old post but you mentioned adding a resistor to the circuit.... which circuit do you mean?
When I fill my LPG it only reads just over 3/4 and it is annoying... I would be stoked if I could fix it!
