its not so much about having the shortest gearing possible, its about having the right gearing. atm my falc will pull 142km/h outa second- when revved right out. i wanna drop that to around 100-110, so when accelerating onto fway you hit it at the top of second for maximum accel, but when o/taking your box doesnt drop to second, coz even with a 3.08 its more revs than power when trying to overtake in second at that speed.
(5700/3.08 = 1850.7... 1850.7 * 3.73 = 6902.) so it would be doing 21.5% more revs in second without a limiter, but if we scale back 21.5% on the 142km speed we should see where the limits of second are with a 3.73 ratio... (142- 21.5%= 111.4 kmh.) which is on the upper limmit of what Im after... should be about perfect for accel to 100-110ks, only one shift, and should be right in the meat for 3rd gear overtaking on the freeway. 3.9's revs are 27% higher at same point, so would do abt 103ks on the limiter in second. a bit low on the speed, you dont wanna rev to limmiter to get to 100 as power drops away usually at this point.

woah to much info for me to take in, but good effort though.
Max streetable ratio i would go 3.7's for manual which i have, and 4.11's for auto ..... both perform in a similar manner. Good luck with whatever ratio you go with, and post up some results |
