Just a quick question I've been wondering about for a little while now...
When you upgrade your ignition system are you able to or should you open the gap up any more? Or is the optimum gap size for a plug set and the ignition system just creates a more powerful spark without altering spark gap?

You should be able to open the gap with a better ignition system. It says this on the BPT website.
Thats where I got my info from. Better the ignition system the stronger the spark and it won't get blown out. |

whats the standard gap size for an i6 just wondering? coz performance distributers in the US says that with their screamin demon coil pack you can gap to .065''...

yes, i have i installed a pair of those sreamin demon coil pacs and want to open up the spark gap.
what is the best way to ascertain what the best gap would be? is there some sort of spark&coil tester?

yeh i know about measuring the gap size, but what about measuring the spark quality/quantity, etc. and what should a optimum spark look like?
maybe i am reading too much into this - need to get a life!

so the standard size was 1.1mm, that means the SD coil packs allows you 50% more gap... wow. Id prolly go a little less to ensure strength...
