as above, i have an ea and the intake is part of the plastic shround covering the fan, radiator etc (moulded on to the plastic)
how do i remove it so that i can put a bigger snorkel on? i was thinking sanding it down but that will take forever by hand, cutting it with a saw would leave uneven lines, and then i thought maybe melt it off with a soldering iron but mmm nah i tried that on my door and long story short my door looks f**k as.. any advice?

I use a 4 inch grinder with diamond cutting wheel to occasionally cut plastics. Then just use a fine file to clean it up. And yes, I know the plastic melts but if you're careful it works fine.
Otherwise, as naughtyfalcon said, use a hacksaw.

Get rid of the clutch fan all together, turf the fan shroud, obtain EF-EL thermo fans and wiring kit from a performance shop. That will solve the chunky fan shroud problem and will give you a truckload more engine response and a slight increase in power. Then think about EF-AU dual plane manifold and airbox.
But if all this is too complex, i suggest what has been suggested, an angle grinder haha. |

ive already got an ef box, i have got the hole to the bbm fiberglassed up, i am running the TB piping into the existing hole that the ef snorkel originally went into, i have cut a hole to fit an xh snorkel in
i just need to buy some 3 inch piping tmorrow so that i can mount the pod on an angle that will fit in the box, and cut another 3 inch hole in the bottom or side so i can run more 3" piping to suck in more air most likely from under the car. i will pursue the thermo fan idea otherwise saw it off and file it back

I chopped up my old airbox and grafted it to a battery box bottom using mostly an angle grinder.. works fine.

You can probably replace the whole shroud with that off
EB2 which has the seperate intake. |
