highly unlikely that there is anything wrong with the ecu....more likely one of the solinoids is in need of replacement...the scan code should indicate which sol it is...and just replace that...

ok had an absolute gut full today and cracked it went to ford. Plug the jigger in and up came codes. it said PCM unable to control solenoid, now he said to me its one of two things dodgy cable to the trans or bung ECU. so its booked in for a circut test at the auto elect from ECU to Trans. fingers crossed its only a wire, if not im gonna be buying a second hand standard falcon ECU cos i got quoted 1400 for the XR6 one from ford. may aswell buy an aftermarket one.

ok gay mode is a wonderful thing especially when your ECU is reading a code that has been fixed. apperently and i quote from ford its a matter of trial and error IF its a solenoid in the transmission and it is STILL possible your ECU may be stuffed. now the auto elec said it detected a blown globe for the power and econ switch so he changed it and guess what same code. he then told me if the ECU finds the same fault repeating itself it may initiate limp home mode, so off to the wreckers i go to get a falcon ECU. then if that doesnt work im going to scream. BEcasue at 200 dollars a solenoid for the tranny i dont think it will be worth keeping that tranny so maybe a manual to come.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance for any help

hi tbird,
I have a feeling your tranmission temp sensor is stuffed. Same symptom that happenned to my friends car. It puts trans into LIMP when it reaches certain temp. Unfortunately, you have to drop the whole valve body to replace this. So has to be done by an autotransmission specialist. See the exploded view of a BTR transmission below. The thermistor is hidden in one of the wiring loom tube. part 1,2,3 in the diagram

its very easy to drop the valve body....maybe 10 or screws hold it in place...

I think the S5 is quite expensive but the others are a lot cheaper...

so what codes are u getting?

ok the saga continues lol. i bought a shift kit for the car a few weeks ago so i banged it in today and it ran beautifully until i was in traffic, so im waiting on a scanner unit i bought to get here so i can read codes myself rather than paying a mechanic, ill post codes up asap but i have a feeling john_jay may be right about the temp sensor because it ran fine when it was cold. Oh and im buying a new ECU for it on friday from the wreckers because the auto elects were having dramas clearing codes as they kept popping it up again like the econo light. so they fixed it and then it popped up again so ill find out on friday hopefully when i put the new ECU in and check codes. Fingers crossed

ok t the scanner unit and put a new ECU in it. tested the old ECU and couldnt clear codes, same code kept poppimg up, the power button switch open circut and cam angle sensor out of range. new ECU in and no codes. drove for a while gave it a hrad run, no limp home mode. pule up some codes but it was only TPS ot of calibration and the cam angle sensor again. so its a waiting game agai but thanks for all ur help guys.
