No it doesn't have to be to the turbo. I have my wastegate referenced from the intake plenum as you do.
Some people say it has to be from the turbo for some reasons I still don't understand but I'm of the belief that if you take the reference from the inlet manifold you get what ever boost you want in the engine more accurately. If you take a boost reference from the turbo you get your desired boost at the turbo but after all the piping and the intercooler you will have less than desired boost getting to the engine. |

thanks for clearing that up, i thought it would of been better also for the wastegate to get its reading off the intake because once you release the throttle it should close up also

I am connecting mine to the manifold also. One thing i am curious about, is do you need some sort of check valves on the purge canister and the brake booster?? Seems to me that i should, sorry for the slight hijack, as it is relevant, sort of.
Cheers Daz

Not really, the only time you need vacuum in the booster is when you wanna brake and you should already be off the gas by the time you're braking. Not only that but your brakes still work if there is no vacuum in the booster, they're just not vac assisted. As for the carbon canister, I'm pretty sure is already a valve on there from the factory. |

There is a one way valve on booster anyway...One small one could be fitted on vac line to accessaries...But they work ok with out it...

I was just worried about engine accessories, getting boost pressure, that maybe shouldn't. Cheers Daz
