Went on me yesterday.

apparently my car was supposed to be "fully serviced and safety checked" before i bought it. s**t

no mechanic services a car and leaves the oil unchanged with grit in it.

this has in turn jammed up my oil pump, which has in turn sheared the teeth off the auxillary shaft, bending the teeth on the dizzy cog at the same time.

not happy jan

oh also, the coil and starter motor died simultaneously at pretty much the same time as the oil pump/aux shaft.

i havent even done 2000kms in the f*cking thing since i bought it 4 weeks ago, and this happens.

f**k car dealers.

so now im left with a heap of junk sitting in my front yard which i cant afford to fix for a long time, being a full time Tafe student with no current job.

/rant

faaaaark i'd be calling them and telling them to fix it as they've advertised having a full service and whatnot, and most car dealerships provide some sort of warranty, also threaten to take it to consumer affairs or something similar. might work might not too

sorry to hear it hope it gets back on the road soon

Sorry to hear alfy. Does it have a warranty? I am thinking that they should since they are a car dealership. Speak to them and tell them what happened...and if they don't fix it. Do what basstrom_dave said about consumer affairs.

phong =P~

The advice me and Troyman tried to give you regarding the cam whine you loved, was defintely a sign to get the car checked asap.

haha, thats exactly what I was thinking.
It wasn't the oil pump "jamming" that sheared the auxilary shaft...

argh this is f**k. car dosent have a warranty because it had done 210,000km when i bought it. but i have a picture of the window when it was on sale stating the full service and safety check.

i'll talk to consumer affairs anyway and see what happens.

Only way to fix that is to get a new motor. Same thing happened to me. Fixed the headgasket and over tighten the timing chain. Which casued the auxliery shaft to break.

well me and a mate took the sump off today... oh dear :(

there were little fine slivers of metal in the oil pickup, representing teeth from the auxilary shaft, and there were about 5 big chunks of metal in the oil pickup which were pieces of the timing chain guide we found at the bottom of the sump :(

adding to that, the oil pump itself has scores and huge gouges out of the chamber, it must have picked up a piece of metal from the guide, which jammed up the oil pump for a split second, which in turn has stripped the aux shaft of its teeth.

thats not where it ends either. i'll put up some interesting pics for you guys to suss out in a minute.

how is it possible to "overtighten" the timing chain?

think your best option is to buy a wrecker motor, at least that will have some sort of warantee

this is what we found in the oil pickup filter. the slivers are teeth of the aux shaft, the chunks are pieces of timing chain guide.
