In an EL XR6, how much clearance is there normally between the sump and the K frame on the exhaust side? This one is about 5 Kms at the moment.
The engine and sump are out of the car and I am wanting to get a fitting welded to the sump that will: - initially be a 'blind' plug - like a sump drain bolt; and maybe later - 3/4" elbow screwed in with an oil drain hose. Any details of locations and fittings that might suit appreciated.....photos of yours?? thanks |

Many thanks - helps to some extent.
It will eventually be for an oil return drain similiar to your first pic. The location of yours suggests it is above and will have enough clearance from the supports around the sump, so as not to prevent the engine going back in. However, a fitting like yours may be difficult to block while used N/A without appearing to be temporary. An elbow (or other fitting) being screwed into a threaded hole later may be a problem if the supports are close to the site and I am hoping to avoid lifting the motor at that time. I could not remember how far the supports are down from the top, and to the side of the sump with the engine installed. Looks like room is not a problem. |

Heres some pics i just took of my setup, cost me $400 to take out the K-frame and support the engine from above and to get it cleaned out and the fitting welded on.
The fitting itself is about 2 inches long, you cant see all of it in the photo. hope it helps, photos are looking directly down from near the turbo. |

thanks for your trouble Luke.
So below and between 1 & 2 cyls as high as possible in the sump - yes? Is that an earth cable lying across the fitting or another fixture, and where would the support rod normally connect to that sits above and towards your PS resev? neil |
