hi dudes and dudets. My EF has normal oil pressure when driving around but when I stop at the lights or sit and idle for a 30 seconds or so, sirens blare from the dash  and the oil pressure gauge shows no pressure, a few rpm in neutral will fix the problem and the gauge floats back to normal pressure. Any ideas what might be causing this, oil pump is buggered maybe?

First option is the sender its self, do you have reason to believe the pressure is low - ie is it rattling or knocking?

A clogged up oil filter can cause this.
Even if the oil is new or looks clean, the pump suddenly can pick up some deposit or other that's been stuck in the crankase or tappet cover or similar place.
If you are using a different oil than previously, then the oil in your engine now may have better cleaning properties.
I would try spinning on a new filter before getting too worried.
If that fixes it, I would do an oil change and another new filter fairly soon.

The car runs perfectly, though I first notced it when I went for hi-po thin oil, I've since gone back to the thick stuff but it still continues. One for the mechanic I reckon, could be one of a few things. Is it easy to remove the sump and have a gander or is it one of those prik jobs due to stuff being in the way? I might just go another oil and filter change, problem persists I'll go and see the doctor.

apparently it's a real C***. my cousins's FBT had an oil pressure problem, turned out to be shagged bearings on the drive for the oil pump.
