its funny how old leads can sap power from your car. especially ford leads cause they get hot near the headers and crystalise the insides. they look fine but arent. changing my old leads helped 100%. under load the most.

when cars came into my old workshop that werent performing then a tune is the first thing i used to do. throttle body, fuel filter, air filter leads, plugs, new oil... all helps.

then maybe look at spark through rev range under load and check timing through rev range to see if it is retarding it at higher rpm, maybe the coil problem before has something to do with it.

Have you checked fuel flow? Could be the pump on the way out

Possibly has a f**k clutch, not to the point where you have no drive at all but when the motor is laboured up it slips slightly thus seeming like all rev and no go, myabe even just try and adjust it first and see how you go

I have just recently got a 11/97 EL XR6 and it is having power problems too... Manual, no mods other than exhaust. Clutch has just been replaced a couple of months ago. 1st gear is a bastard on take off with hills even if i rev it to 4000 or so and ease the clutch out but it just stalls back to 800rpm and slowly drives out. After about 50 metres up the hill it finally gets going. The other time it lacks is trying to over take on a hill. I moved back from 4th to 3rd at 90km/h and it just sat there not gaining any more speed till the hill plateau's out and then accelerates. My EB S auto would eat it for brekky and me BA XR6 would treat it as bad gas.

Can you hear any bad vaccum leaks? If so maybe BBM is not switching to the short runners at low rpm. I've unlpugged my BBM trigger just for fun, and found it didnt go anywhere at all. But once it hit the 3500rpm mark it went fine.

Also recently changed my MAP sensor. The old one musta been really shagged as I no longer have any lower rpm power loss. Everything would idle OK, but was gutless until you hit about 4000 rpm then it took off again.

And no, fault codes did not pick up this faulty sensor.
