Looking at buying second hand R6, done some searching but still not sure on it.

some say it comes on at 3000, some say it can be dialled in for 2400. No one seems to have the exact specs available, i assume this will make tunning it (both with vernier gear, and then latter on the dyno with flash) more difficult?

whats peoples experience with this cam? whats its history? where does it fit in the RPD chain ( R1-->R6 whats the difference?) is she a mild medium or hot cam?

I want a cam that comes on about 2400 or so to redline , for when overtaking and dropping to 3rd. Can anyone recomend this model cam to me?

Or Dev3HL, or Wade 1636, or Wade 1004-114....

Arm79 was running an R6 for awhile, it was their middle range cam, not as top endy as the "R3".
He reckoned it had a bit more top end then the 1636 and didn't lose that much to it downlow from memory.

To dial it in without specs, most of them give you a "lift at TDC" measurement.
You just put a dial indicator on the rocker arm and advance/retard the cam till you get the right lift at TDC on the intake stroke.

nicely explained steady. cheers.

reason why Im looking at it is coz its going for $100 neat, and I can hold onto it until the time comes for it to go in. cms want $365 for regrind cam, vernier and shims, and you have to post a replacement cam back to them.

How much would the verniers and shims cost? coz ive got a mate who is a mech who can install it and dial it in. if its under 200 bucks for the vernier and shims (an possibly new hla's- ive heard I should get them at same time with xr springs), it sounds like a good buy for the money.

I wouldn't bother with the new HLAs on such a new car.
Retail on the rollmaster/crow vernier cam gear is 110 from memory.
No idea on shims, I've never bought new ones, but I can't see them costing $90 ;)

I bought my vernier gear for $135 (I think...can't find receipt) from a place in Epping on Cooper St. Can't remember the name sorry, hopefully someone can enlighten us on that. Shims cost me $39.80 from Ford for a set of 12, that was at a reduced price as well :?. Originally was going to cost me about $50 or so.

If you plan on buying the cam and spend a further $200 for extras, then I think you should be right.

I have about 10 shims left if you are after some. I have lost the other 2 somewhere in the pile of junk in my garage.

phong =P~

With the RPD cams, as far as i know, there isnt a flat rule for number of shims with their cams and a few people who didnt know what their doing ended up with alot of headaches trying to get it right.

Whatever cam you use, i wouldnt bother fitting it until you have some sort of tunable chip to make it run properly in your AU.

Wade do cams for 135 and i wouldnt think the price would be much different for the AU. Get one ground up with 1636 equivalent specs taking into account of the different rocker ratios to the eseries

 grins  au dont need tuneable chip per se, not if you have a capa flash tuner... which i happen to have sitting on the shelf... ready for such an application.

I had an R6, came on at 3000RPM ish, hit pretty hard, some loss at lower RPM, but pulled hard as 3000+ (like it wanted to go all the way through the limiter)

Had a funny number of shims (had the rocker gear off 4 times to get it right)

i was told 40 thou lift at TDC by jaysen and 80 though by JMM

still for sale $100 in the FS section along with a set of valve springs (that you dont 100% need with XR6 motors)
