G'day there fellow fordies. Can anybody tell me if my coolant reservoir ( the one which looks like an egg carton ) is polyethylene or polypropylene or another type of plastic ? I'm gluing in the dash sensor float.

Why are you doing that.......?
There should be a screw in fitment for the sensor from memory.

Thanks for replying philaddis. I took the sensor out of an EA S-Pack reservoir. That reservoir had an external thread and cap ( as you mentioned ). My EBII has an internal thread but as yet I don't have the appropriate part. I have drilled a hole ( needed regardless ) to fit the sensor but don't have the rubber gasket either so....glue is the way to go for now.

get the parts from fraud you will have leaks otherwise and blow your headgasket.

I think Ford charge a fair bit for them. Coventry's are $53 + gst (retail) or you can get them here for a little less........ OEM I believe. It'll have everything you need to finish the job. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-EA-EB-ED-EF ... dZViewItem

Just go to a wreckers to get a complete reservoir and put it onto your car.

I would probably not do that..... but that's just me..... Those tanks are prone to cracking after a certain time and the floats themselves start to deteriorate as well.... the seals on the floats also start to die after a while..... It's not too exy to go with a new float, and when your tank fails, the same guy on ebay does pretty good deals on nice clean new header tanks.

Thanks for all your suggestions blokes. I went to wreckers ( $55 for complete tank + sender ) but gave it a miss as $$ is a bit tight presently. Went to Coventry's yep $53 for sensor only. At Coventry's bought Polypropylene/polyethylene compatible glue istead which I think the tank's made of and which has given a good seal. Checked under hood for leaks after one day, good so far. Will check ongoing but the seal lookspretty solid. Tried other glues but wasted money. Brand of glue is DR Bond Plastic Bonder and was the only Polyprop/Polyethyl glue on their shelves. Not temperature rated though so.....

Addition. Checked out the link Philaddis, cheers. I also figured on the seals being worn out in the tanks from the wreckers and the reservoirs were pretty dirty too and from what I've read on this site they're almost impossible to clean. I put some loctite glue/sealer in the end where the sensor itself goes into the black plastic plug ( not water bearing ) as this was "crumbly" as were those at the wreckers.

the rubber grommets are only about $4 from ford parts.
I got 2 last time you can also get new floats from the AU parts catalogue.
